Character History & Biography:
Starting in 1990, at the age of 15, Scorpion was working as an assistant promoter/writer for a now defunct wrestling promotion. He had adopted the name Scorpion after many sources, and realized it was a very common nickname. So when he got his first break, in 1991, he went for something a bit more simple.
From 1991-1994 Scorpion wrestled as The Technician. This was in addition to his normal duties as a writer, and was basically just to “cut his teeth” in the industry.
Scorpion’s win/loss record was abysmal, as he mostly jobbed and was on the receiving end of many squash matches. With no opportunity for advancement, and going nowhere fast, Scorpion quit his job as writer and part time wrestler, and pursued a career in baseball.
(This eventually turned out to be a good move, as the wrestling promotion closed it doors for good just over two months later.)
As a good field/no hit backup centerfielder, Scorpion toiled in the minor leagues of the Oakland A’s franchise. Ultimately the strike and the entire “replacement players” fiasco before and during the 1994-1995 MLB season gave him his shot, and he was briefly on the A’s roster. This was short lived however, and he was sent down to their AA affiliate (at the time the Huntsville Stars). As the imminent strike cancelled the 1994 World Series and shortened the MLB season, Scorpion found himself out of work. He got a job stocking shelves at a grocery store in Florence, Kentucky to earn some cash.
In 1995, when the baseball season started up again, Scorpion ran into one of the coaches for the Louisville Bats. After talking baseball, the coach told Scorpion he should stop by the training facility. Scorpion quit his job and packed up his car, then made the drive to Louisville. He tried out, and was offered a contract. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out. Scorpion warmed the bench for the Bats until just before the 1998 season, then he retired from baseball for good.
At a bar in Cincinnati, almost broke and down on his luck, Scorpion was recognized by one of the patrons. Thinking he had found another chance at a baseball career, maybe as a coach, Scorpion’s hopes were soon dashed as he realized the person knew him for his wrestling career. Trying to finish his drink quickly, Scorpion was lured into talking to the individual. He found out there was a wrestling organization touring Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky, and they were interested in him. Figuring it was the only choice he had, Scorpion accepted an invitation to meet with the brand’s officials.
The next morning, Scorpion was introduced to the most beautiful woman he had ever met. (They were ultimately married in 1998). Sapphire was the brand’s CEO. They hit it off, and Scorpion made several guest spots on the current tour. Sapphire and Scorpion became intimately involved, and came up with a devilish scheme to “hostile takeover” the company. These plans came to fruition in 1999, and ECWL (East Coast Wrestling League) was born.
Scorpion laid low and Sapphire ran day to day operations of ECWL.
It was a year before anyone found out that Scorpion was part owner, but the writers covered that up with some great storylines.
Now 2000, with Scorpion wrestling as The Degenerate, a rival promotion started a friendly wrestling war with ECWL. They teamed up and smasheded everyone else in the ratings department. At Sapphire’s suggestion, Scorpion added the ‘Scorpion’ back to his name, eventually just dropping The Degenerate altogether.
But everything was not going well, in 2001 ratings were slipping and a certain McMahon had started to take notice. This individual started stealing some of ECWL’s talent. Rather than fight, Sapphire realized that an alliance would be better for ECWL. An elaborate storyline was born. Scorpion would create a tag team, and give them the name DX II. HHH would make a guest appearance on ECWL to ‘wrestle Scorpion for the copyright.’ Scorpion would also visit the WWE to complete the deal. ECWL would have a dominant tag team, and this would recreate interest in the original DX for the WWE. Scorpion tagged with a then unknown Zack to create DX II. Their music was a remixed DX theme, and the two came out on motorcycles.
Unfortunately, this was short lived, and in 2002 the WWE bought out ECWL.
McMahon was never a big fan of Zack, so he immediately fired him. Sapphire was classified as a wrestler and became Scorpion’s valet.
The WWE had just signed a new talent, Jeff Pryce. He and Scorpion had a long feud which stretched off and on until 2003. The WWE decided they needed some fresh meat in the tag team division, and finding the pickings slim, they decided to team up Scorpion and Jeff Pryce…
The new incarnation of D-Generation X II was born.
They are short lived in the WWE, however, and are released and signed to TWF. In a stroke of genius, Scorpion and Sapphire got the papers for the rights to the DX name recognized as official legal documents, and continue to use the name DX II.
In 2004, Behemoth and Madd Monkey burst onto the scene as The New Click. They started feuding with DX II, and both teams end up in the tag title hunt. DX II wins the tag titles, but loses them to the Legion of Doom at the end of the year. The feud between DX II and The Click continues until Madd Monkey goes to rehab for drug addiction, and Behemoth starts pursuing a singles career.
February 2005, Darkside (Nightmare and Doctor Death) come to TWF, and waste no time in decimating the LOD. They arrive in the arena the night after the PPV to brag about their feat. While in the ring, the DX II music (Powerman 5000’s Riot Time, at that time) plays, and Scorpion appears at the entrance ramp. Trash talking ensues, and DX II are challenged to a Devil’s Playground match (think Steel Warfare/HIAC/Hardcore/Six Sides of Steel/Ladder match). DX II of course accepts this challenge, and over the course of the next few weeks mayhem ensues between the teams. DX II enlists the help of the original DX (on loan from the WWE, to see how a DX reunion might pan out).
During this, Behemoth shows up, talking about a mystery partner named Overkill being the newest member of the Click. He starts going after Scorpion. So, dealing with Behemoth, and Darkside, Scorpion and Jeff Pryce get booked in a match against the (newly signed) Impact Players. This is to be a table match, and the match is brutal from the start. The teams go back and forth, and DX II finally gets the upper hand. Suddenly, Jeff Pryce turns on his stable mates, and throws Sapphire through a table! As Scorpion is distracted, Justin Credible and Lance Storm scoop him up, and deposit him through a table as well, ending the match. Behemoth shows up with a mic, starts taunting Scorpion, informs him that the guy in the ring isn’t Jeff Pryce, he is Overkill, the newest member of the Click!
Scorpion and Sapphire heal from their injuries, in time for the title match against Darkside. Jeff Pryce is reunited with his stable mates, and no explanation is given to the fans as to where he was, or what the whole background story to Overkill is. (Turns out Jeff Pryce is Overkill, and the “new” Jeff Pryce is John Moyer, recently added to the stable, with Pryce’s makeup).
Mid 2006, The PPV is upon us! Before the show, we see DX and DX II involved in a heated debate over the origins of DX II, and a scuffle ensues. The GM appears, and informs them that tonight’s match is now a triple threat!
The match starts, mayhem ensues. The object is to climb the ladder and retrieve the titles, but the match takes place inside an Steel Warfare, there are weapons inside, and it is the most brutal match ever seen! At one point, Doctor Death and HBK climb the ladders and each retrieves a belt simultaneously! After an announcement that those two are now the tag champs, the GM appears and overturns this decision, and restarts the match. Taking advantage of this distraction, Scorpion and Pryce (Moyer) get the upper hand, knocking down everyone else in the match. Pryce (Moyer) is too beat up to climb, so it’s up to Scorpion to climb the ladder. Suddenly, Behemoth somehow enters the chamber, and knocks out the ref. Sapphire climbs into the chamber, and hits Behemoth with a chair, then turns to help Scorpion up the ladder. As Scorpion is halfway up the ladder, Sapphire tips the ladder over! When Pryce (Moyer) tries to intervene, Sapph gives him a low blow! During this commotion, HHH gets the other ladder, and begins to climb.
Sapphire stands over Scorpion, and a nation of lip readers sees her say “Now we’re even, mother****er.” Then she turns to leave.
Triple H reaches the top of the ladder, and retrieves the belts. DX are the tag champs!
Over the course of the next few months, a bitter three-way feud rages between DX, DX II (now with John Moyer, as himself), and Darkside. The titles change hands twice, with DX II eventually ending up with them. Also during this time, Jeff Pryce and Overkill are revealed as one and the same, and John Moyer faces Overkill in a retribution match, in a Steel Asylum. Moyer wins a tough battle. Sapphire is welcomed back into DX II and all is forgiven.
ECWL is reformed as (conveniently) everyone’s contracts are running out, everyone heads for the (new) old company even as a bitter legal battle rages for the rights to the name.
The ever savvy Sapphire is successful in defeating the TWF in court, and ECWL is allowed to be reborn.
Late 2006, DX II have the tag titles, and begin feuding with the New Click. This leads to a tag title match between the two teams. It looks like The Click is on its way to winning the titles, but during the match Overkill turns (again) and helps DX II win the match, as Scorpion gets the pinfall after a pedigree on Behemoth. After the match, Madd Monkey returns and a fight breaks out backstage, and Moyer ends up with a leg injury.
Early 2007, Moyer is out, Pryce is back in, and the original DX II is back together. Unfortunately, with Moyer out, Scorpion is forced to surrender the titles. (No Freebird rule allowed, apparently)
During this time the team of the Outlaws is introduced, and they storm their way to the titles. DX II spends the next few months trying to recapture the gold, but they are unsuccessful.
Mid 2007 Moyer appears and has a brief solo career (in the blue attire), then joins the recently signed Chance and Kevin Hill to form the New Wolfpac. They ultimately take the titles from The Outlaws. (Hill and Moyer, Chance goes on to win the World Championship).
Late 2007, BPW’s star tag team, the Ringmasters, consists of Spyder and Tomaso. Tomaso has been recently injured, and Spyder has been wrestling in singles competition.
Spyder contacts his friends, and a partnership is announced between ECWL and BPW, and cross-promotions commence.
Scorpion and Spyder, being old friends, meet up and talk of starting a new tag team.
DX II shakes hands and parts ways, and Revelation is born.
This brings us to the end of 2007, with Revelation in the hunt for the tag titles.
Many of ECWL and BPW’s top stars crossed paths during this time, causing many heated rivalries, most notably (and ironically) the one between Spyder and Jeff Pryce.
2008: Spyder goes to try his hand at singles wrestlng, and Scorpion is training his up and coming sons Tyler and Logan to terrorize the wrestling world. As a stable they are Revelation X, with Scorpion doing mostly manager duties.
Occasionally there is a challenge from an up and coming tag team, and Spyder and Scorpion will reform Revelation to raise some more hell every time this happens!
Rev X makes quite a name for themselves as a tag team, capturing the Tag Titles twice during the course of 2008.
DX II is reformed yet again, although with DX making noise in another organization the name is changed to XDX.
In one of their matches, Scorpion (SDL) is injured, and is out of action for the last part of the year.
Over the past few years, Scorpion and Spyder have been traveling around to various feds.
There was the infamous AWF incident, which marked the exit of Scorpion AND Spyder from that organization after a scant two weeks.
A cross-promotion with CPW was also announced, and several ECWL stars had matches over there.
Scorpion discovered TNB2, reforming under the name TNB once again, and joined up.
In his first few months in this company, Scorpion went after the top names in TNB, and it wasn’t long before he was as recognized as the incumbents.
Over time (and many stints in TNB) Scorpion has had some notable feuds, and he can hardly hold his balance as a tweener before tipping and falling back into his long time role of heel.
He has held the XTV title twice (as the Violence title), but oddly enough has never won tag team gold here (even though Pryce did with Johnny Phoenix, as The Main Attraction 2.0), nor has he ever held TNB’s grandest prize,
The TNB Undisputed title.
These are sure to be goals for Scorpion, as he unexpectedly makes yet another return to TNB under some strange circumstances…
