Many wrestlers come. Many of them disappear. Over the years. Innovation:Wrestling, the successor to TNB Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling respectively. During the league's eight year run since its rebirth in 2005. This company had produced many well known commodities in the SPORT of professional wrestling.
Names like The Avenger, The Dixon Clan, Scott "Maniac" Manor, Sylas Styles, "Double S" (formerly Shia Storm), Chris Lionheart, Nicole Storm, Jesse Blair, The Youngbloods, Syren, Ryan Blaze, Kyle Nobbs, the list is ENDLESS. Many of which, got there break here in I:W. Most of them are now gone. Others still remain and running strong within' the company. The one's that rode off into the sunset? Have all left there thumbprint on this organization. Not to mention, the entire wrestling industry as a whole.
However, one other name has also been synonymous with I:W. As a matter of fact? To most who know this companies history from front to back. He could be considered as one part of the very nucleus that helped in holding the company together through its darkest hours. While also shining bright when the league was as its zenith.
His name....
In a special, impromptu interview conducted with this enigmatic, I:W Legend. Genesis addresses what he's been up to, and gives his thoughts/opinions on the current state of the wrestling industry. Genesis certainly has a way with words, and most know that he's never afraid to hold back on anyone or anything. Sit back, relax and drink a few cold one's. Enjoy this special sit-down interview with the "King of Controversy" himself... the one & only, Genesis!
I:W.com: Genesis, first of all. We here at Innovation:Wrestling would like to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to be here with us today for this interview. This is certainly an interview that I'm sure will be talked about, and certainly tweeted about worldwide.
Genesis: "Don't mention it. I'm sure many folks out there are gonna be interested in what I have to say. Surely, people with some level of common sense and a fully functional brain will understand. While the haters will do what they do best. Cry, Bitch, Scream, and Tweet about what a dick this guy Genesis is (laughs). All the typical 'smarks' who think they know everything about me, and what I should be doing.
But ya know what? More the merrier. As I always say in this business. "Any publicity is good publicity". For good or for bad. If people are talking about you. Then you're off to the races. Its when you get zero publicity or response is when you really have to be reconsidering your options a little bit, haha."
I:W.com: Well that does beg the question. Why now? Why do you choose to do this interview now? Rather then say... 6 months ago, when you were forced to retire from the squared circle?
Genesis: "In this business. Timing is everything. Ya know, I had been asked to do this interview shortly after "Rise to Stardom IV". Having come off a huge match with Double S, which landed me into the official "retirement home", so to speak. I felt it was way too early to be talking to you guys. Much less any kind of dirtsheet website, about what I'm doing and where I'm headed. Fast forward to today. Some seven months after my final match. I figure now is as good of time as any to come out and let my voice be heard."
I:W.com: So what has Genesis been doing as of late?
Genesis: "Kickin' it at my mansion down at the "City of Angels", aka Los Angeles California. And frankly... not doing a whole lot of anything (laughs). I guess loafing would be the best word to describe what I've been up to. I've done a few autograph signing sessions for small, local independent promotions. I've done a few radio show interviews. I plan on getting back into the "Twitter" thing again real soon. With the way technology has been. What better way to tell the world what you think about something then by using stupid hashtags, "@" symbols and under 140 characters right?"
Gen. says with a cheeky grin, as he laughs.
Genesis: "I guess my last real appearance was around February-March, when the company was trying to book me into an angle with Lionheart. So..."
I:W.com: Do you wanna talk about that?
Genesis: "Question is, can I talk about that? (laughs)."
I:W.com: Well... we're giving you free reign to shoot the breeze on whatever, Genesis. So if that tickles your fancy? Then go for it.
Genesis: "I'll just put it like this. I think the feud with Lionheart could have been Storyline of the Year, had things worked out for the both of us. All the stars were starting to align, and you just had a feeling that something special was beginning to brew.
However... when it comes to Genesis & Chris Lionheart. We fight like cats & dogs out there. I swear, we're literately two brothers from completely different mothers. There's times where we just see eye-to-eye and click on all cylinders. Other times? He wants to rip my throat out and I wanna rip his. But when it comes right down to it. The reason the storyline never really got off the ground like it should have been, fell down to the same issues that stopped it from happening back in 2007 & 2009. Which was getting our shit together. There was no real commitment on one side versus the other, ya know? I was willing to go in it full blast. Lionheart? Eh, for whatever reason. Not so much. He just didn't seem to really care nor had the time to commit. So if he didn't give a shit? Why should I? So... that's basically how things broke down with that. I halfway expected that to happen, yet I was disappointed at the same time. That I had blown valuable air time that could've gone to another wrestler for me to promote this angle. And now, its gotta be thrown to the wayside due to one person not willing to meet the other halfway.
Once that all happened. I disappeared into obscurity & couldn't be bothered to even considering any sort of a comeback. Both inside, and outside of the ring."
I:W.com: Is there any residual animosity still left over between you & Chris Lionheart even today over the fallout?
Genesis: "Not really. I mean, what's done is done. What can you do really? Can't go back and change the past. You can sit back and make all the "What If's" you want, but it won't change a damn thing. I don't hate the guy personally. I just think he sucks as the Commander in Chief."
I:W.com: Hypothetically, had the storyline worked out. What do you think would've been the conclusion?
Genesis: "I know I probably shouldn't be saying this. But, considering as how I'm not on the payroll here anymore and can't be fired. I might as well let the cat out of the bag here...
Okay, basically the way things were supposed to go down. The match was eventually going to be setup for "Rise to Stardom V". Now, with Genesis & Lionheart legally not being able to 'wrestle' now. Thanks to Double S & Ryan Blaze respectively. It was impossible to have an officially 'sanctioned' match by Innovation:Wrestling to promote this bout on the card.
So the idea was, lets not have a wrestling match. Lets turn this into a "Fight". Lets have both men show up in street clothes on a street corner somewhere. Let the camera crews be stationed around the area. Block off the streets. Have the cops & paramedics on standby. Lets have these two men kill each other in a fight to the death style type of environment. Where one man is gonna walk away with sole ownership of the company. While the other is going to lose everything.
Everything was going to be mapped out as a well, choreographed fist-fight between myself & Lionheart. Where Genesis was gonna walk away with winner. Thus, becoming the quote unquote "New Owner" or "Face" of the company.
Now... here is where things start to get interesting. There's a big twist that we cooked up that nobody would have ever saw coming.
The twist is, Genesis was going to grab the contract. The very same legal document that Lionheart & Genesis had agreed to months back on a Pay-Per-View. That said the league would bare no responsibilities if either men walked away seriously injured or worse. And Genesis was going to rip this document up in front of Lionheart. As Lionheart gets up and see's all this. He's confused and bewildered. Like "What the fuck did you just do?" Then that's where I would go: "Well Chris... its simple. I can't run this beast alone. I'm gonna need some backup."
Both men shake hands. The year long feud is over. Both Genesis AND Chris Lionheart run the company in a sorta "Good Cop, Bad Cop" like situation for 2013 and beyond."
I:W.com: With this 'twist' to the plot. Would it have made the build up for one man to walk in as owner, and walk out with nothing seem pointless?
Genesis: "No, not exactly. That 'ending' to me is what people would've expected to see. They would want to see either Genesis or Chris Lionheart walk away with sole ownership. Then the other guy disappear forever. Frankly, I didn't want to feed the audience or the wrestlers watching this all unfold backstage the same garbage you've seen happen time and time again in other feds. In that respect. That is why the big plot-twisting conclusion needed to happen to give the people a real mind-fuck. Now, would everyone have loved that ending? I don't no. Frankly, I don't think we'll ever no. But would it have made for interesting Television in the next year or so? Hell yeah! Definitely!"
I:W.com: Speaking of TV. Do you keep up with Innovation:Wrestling since you have been away? How often do you watch the shows?
Genesis: "Not enough as I'd like to. But lets put it this way. I catch enough of it to know what's going on, and... ya know. Its fun really to sit back and be a "fan" again. For me to sit back in my recliner and try to pick apart a storyline. So, that's always a fun thing for me to do when I do watch the weekly "ShowDown" episodes or catch a Pay-Per-View."
I:W.com: As you watch the product now as an outsider looking in. Who do you like?
Genesis: "You may find this as a surprise for me to say this. But honestly? I'm a fan of Double S."
I:W.com: Oh really?
Genesis: "Yeah... now granted, I hate the bastard for putting me out of the business (laughs). However, on the same token. I gotta respect the guy for having the balls to keep the momentum flowing since our epic battle at Rise to Stardom last year. Ya know... so kudos to him. I wish him nothing but the best."
I:W.com: Any other favorites?
Genesis: "There's a couple. I'm a mark for Colby Donnelly. Mainly because I think this kid has alot of potential. Well, I take that back. Scratch that. To me, the guy has all the makings of a future "Megastar" (pun intended) in this business. All he needs is someone to light the match and set his ass on fire to get him going in the right direction.
I'm also a big Jeff Kain mark. Big fan of his work. Dude is funny as hell. Always entertaining. The way he schooled Alex Winters a couple of months back was CLASSIC! Poor rook. didn't stand a chance.
Lets see... who else?
Brent Starr. I know that he's had a rough, rocky up-and-down past for the last several years. Lately, he's been showing signs of the good ol' "PWNdozer" that has been, in my opinion anyway, sleeping like a giant just ready to wake-up & wreck havoc upon the world. Needless to say. I'm excited to see where this character goes. Like myself, when he's on? There's no one that can touch him.
Lastly, I also like Sentoryu and Kyle Nobbs. Sentoryu, I can remember having a great run in 2010. While I may not always be able to understand half the shit he says (laughs). He's a phenomenal talent that shouldn't go unnoticed or underestimated. Nobbs is a helluva talent. One of the few guys I wished that I could've tangled with. Either here (I:W) or elsewhere in another company.

Either here (I:W) or elsewhere in another company.
I:W.com: You say that you wished you could have worked a program with Kyle Nobbs. Are there any others you look back on in retrospect and say: "Damn! Wish I could've worked with this guy or that guy." ?
Genesis: "Of course! And ya know... I think just about every wrestler who ultimately has to retire has those moments where you wish you could step back into the ring and wrestle this guy, or that guy.
For me. The first few names that come to mind that I would've loved to have worked with have to be "Showtime" Bryan Daniels. As long winded as we both are. Could you imagine trying to wrap an entire segment around our long, ass promo's? (laughs).
King Vegas. Either working with him, or against him would've been a pleasure. I think we were close to getting that to happen down in Toronto at one point, but for whatever reason. The trigger wasn't pulled to make it happen.
Then, as far as your talent here in I:W goes...
Brent Starr ranks right up there. Especially if the guy is on top of his game and back to his old-self. We both don't take shit from anybody, and I think for viewership numbers. That would've been a storyline to propel the ratings through the roof.
Kyle Nobbs, Jeff Kain, Ryan Blaze, Sentoryu, the up-and-comer Colby Donnelly. And I'm sure there's a couple of others that I'm forgetting about. But right off the top of my head anyway. All of those guys I know for a fact. Given the right timing & circumstances? Would've all been well remembered, money making feuds."
I:W.com: I have to ask this question to you, Genesis. Is there any shred, any hope, any fraction of a chance that you would ever return to the ring? Despite having to 'retire', would you ever considering finding a way to fight this and come back someday?
Genesis: "Absolutely not..."
*short pause*
I:W.com: Okay...
Genesis: "The one thing about me has always been this. Whether you hated my guts, either personally or professionally. Or you loved my work. I always lived up, and kept my word. When I made a promise? I didn't go back on it. You had my vow that I was going to live up to any sort of agreement that was made.
Thus, when I lost to Double S and had to retire? I meant that. To me, if I were to break that word and come back for any reason whatsoever? That would've killed everything that Double S & I had agreed to prior to my retirement.
I made up my mind a long time ago. If I ever had to retire. No matter if it was at a younger age, or even during a mid-life crisis. I was going to do the right thing and pass the torch to the next guy.
So when I lost to Double S? That night. Everything changed. Genesis lost. Genesis retired. More importantly? The moment when Double S & MG Cage slammed that casket door shut on Genesis and set that bad boy ablaze? That was the moment my career was over. The torch was passed. Now... you fast forward seven months later. Look at where Double S is at now? On that night. Whether he knew it or not. I passed him the ball. Hoping to god, he wouldn't drop it. So far? He's been dominant. He's taking guys out left and right. Frankly? If I had to face Double S right now, as opposed to facing him seven months ago? I'm man enough to admit. I'd probably piss myself. Cause that man has far exceeded my expectations of how... I guess, in my head, what I imagined he could be going. Skies the roof for this guy, and I wouldn't be the least surprised. That by the time Rise to Stardom V rolls around. He walks away your new World Heavyweight Champion.
All due respect to the rest of the talent? God love em' for what they do. But there is no man that is more deserving of having at least one good run with 'the strap' then Double S."

I:W.com: What do you think about a potential feud brewing between Double S & Brent Starr?
Genesis: "Honest opinion? That is going to be Feud of the Year."
I:W.com: WOW.... talk about a bold prediction on your part, Genesis.
Genesis: "As long as those two men are on, and continue to deliver the goods without hitting any speed bumps along the way to derail things. Those guys are gonna tear the house down night after night. Don't ask me who is gonna walk away the quote unquote 'better man'. Frankly? I don't know who would win a match between those two guys. Your guess would be as good as mine."
I:W.com: Any final thoughts Genesis as we wrap up this interview?
Genesis: "I'd just like to say thank you to the entire Innovation:Wrestling crew for giving me this chance to sit down and get everything off my chest. More importantly. To all my fans around the world, coast to coast. Thank you! Without you, as cliche as this shit sounds. I wouldn't be here today had it not been for your money flying from your hand to my pocket (laughs)."
I:W.com: And that's a wrap.
Genesis: "Oh, and also. Ride like the wind-rammer as you fuck!" "
I:W.com: Oh boy (laughs)
Genesis: "There... there's ya something to be 'trending worldwide' on Twitter. Good night, ya crazy bastards."
(OOC: I just wanted to say I did this totally in IC/COOC form, whichever you want to call it... lol. I got the 'itch' to do some roleplaying tonight. Had nothing better else to do so I figured "eh, what the hell? I'll do something interesting". I have no plans to return on a full, or even a part-time basis. But like tonight. I won't rule out dropping in from time to time with Genesis playing the spectator, more or less from this point forward.
Bottom line. Hope you guys enjoyed what I wrote. If I offended or stepped on anyone's toes doing this? I apologize ahead of time. But just know it was done purely in a fashion that Genesis would have said, and doesn't reflect my true feelings on anybody here. Keep up the good work guys).
