This coalition government (lib-dem and tory political parties) are looking to cut costs anywhere they can, disabled people be damned. With their new welfare reform I now get NO benefits due to my fiance Miriam working full time at the hospital in the operating theater. This is despite the obvious factors that I am both classed as legally disabled for various things (eyes=registered blind, hearing loss, mobility and circulation problems) AND signed off from having to seek work by my doctor. And that I was not claiming for Miriam, just for myself. Now she's just expected to have to pay for both of us.
The £200 every 2 weeks which we were managing on, and which all future plans were cash-flow-forecast-on Is Now GONE! £200 may sound a lot if it was going on luxury items such as games, but we were depending on that money for future plans, such as getting married and the rent we pay for the flat we live-in and that we are locked-into a contract with. Worse, there is no replacement/alternate benefit I can go onto in it's place.
Miriam cannot claim 'Working Tax Credits', whatever they are, because she is only 23 and not the required 25. I cannot simply walk out side and get a job, because no one
will take me. Even if we take the premise that my disabilities do not get my application automatically rejected, I don't have the experience, and no one will give me a chance when faced with another applicant that has said experience. But I cannot do voluntary work to gain said experience unless there is a job waiting for me at the end of the volunteer placement.
We are well and truly screwed. And essentially fucked-over for being disabled. I have no idea how this will affect things in the future, we have 'just enough' money to get married still.
