I remember there was some backlash when Google Chrome changed its logo from the one pictured on the left to the one on the right: I personally loved the change, but it got me thinking about logo revisions and re-branding. When Sony decided to re-brand their Playstation 3 line (see below), ditching the Spiderman 3 font and changing the boxart template, there were some people who didn't like the sudden change. Some were worried about their collections looking inconsistent when lined up on a shelf, and others were simply (inexplicably) fans of the original font. Again, I didn't mind this change, although I was slightly peeved that it was necessary in the first place. I like my game cases looking uniform. So those are two examples of controversial logo changes that I didn't mind. Here's an example of a logo change that I feel was a regression: I understand that Comedy Central was just following the minimalist trend that most companies follow when re-branding these days, but I just think that the new logo is poorly designed. Why have the second "C" backwards? Why is "Central" written upside-down and backwards? I can see how the old logo looks a bit dated, but in my opinion it was much more distinct and presentable than the ugly, plain logo that adorns the bottom-right corner of my weekly South Park episode.
