LessChrome HD
URL:
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/prospector-lessChrome-HD/
Screencast:
mozillalabs.com/prospector/2011/05/20/lesschrome-hd-more-space-to-browse/
What It Does:
This addon hides all menus at the top of the browser (bookmarks/back/forward/addressbar) leaving only the tabs you have open, and the orange firefox menu dropdown button, until you point at the tabs to get them back.
My Opinion:
Very good for viewing just about as much of the webpage in your screen's real estate as you can without completely getting rid of all menus and their functionality. It's like a more enhanced version of pressing F11 to go full screen, because it still has the tabs at the top of the browser window, and the other buttons like back and addressbar only show up if you hover over the top of them for a second instead of immediately clicking on them. Very useful in my opinion.
Notes:
It requires a ''Nightly'' build of FireFox (6.0a1 alpha). But this does not overwrite your current version of FF's settings (I am currently using FF3.6.17). I haven't yet tried uninstalling 'Nightly' to see if that would take-away FF's settings like bookmarks/remembered passwords, but remember to always keep a backup and you'll be fine.
You also cannot run FF and Nightly at the same time. Three main things to bare in mind in terms of switching between the two, if you plan to do that:

You also cannot run FF and Nightly at the same time. Three main things to bare in mind in terms of switching between the two, if you plan to do that:
- If you remove the 'menu bar' (old school file, edit, view menu buttons) in Nightly to make the new 'orange firefox drop down menu' appear in it's place, then when you go back to FF you will need to re-enable the 'menu bar' toolbar. No big problem, really.
- To use LessChrome HD properly, you must set the 'Tabs on Top' option in 'Nightly', and then re-enable tabs it in FF3.
- When I switch back to FF3 and then load up 'Nightly' afterwards, I simply need to re-install this addon in 'Nightly' for it to work again. I'm guessing this is something to do with it being an addon where you don't have to restart the browser, or what. I'm sure I'll figure it out though. Again not a big problem. Just means I need to have a bookmark to this addon's installation page, but I do that anyway with all the addons I use.
