... my dislike for it wasn't just a case of me being 9 years old playing it on my SEGA MEGA-CD.
Just purchased this game on PC, on STEAM (£4 for the win!). Considering that it's main premise is hitting a Future/Past lamppost and then gaining enough momentum to time travel (the idea being to go into the past, get the emerald from the special stage and thus cause a good future because Robotnik won't have it) - it's super hard to build momentum with how many enemies are in your way, or with how the levels are layed-out.
This is not your Sonic 2/3/Knuckles kind of Sonic game based around momentum/speed, but more like Sonic 1 and built around exploration. In fact it uses a lot of Sonic 1 assets, such as enemies. I half remember reading something about Sonic CD being made by one team after Sonic 1, but another team worked on Sonic 2 at the same time.
Oh well, for £4 I'm not complaining really.
