First Look at Portable Green Hill; Casino Night & Launch Base Confirmed Areas
Scans of the latest Nintendo Power issue surfaced this afternoon, and the Sonic Generations feature contained within dishes out plenty of details on both this and other versions.
First, Casino Night is a confirmed in-game stage, as 3DS exclusive. A boss from Launch Base is also seen in the issue, leading us to believe that too has made the cut in whole. Each version of the game will have a different set of stages, however, so it looks unlikely that any form of Launch Base will be available on the console version. Also adding uncertainty to the question: NP says the boss stages for 3DS will also remain exclusive to that version–some using Classic Sonic, others Modern.
The feature showcases interviews with both Takashi Iizuka and Jun Senoue. Pertaining more to the latter, we’ve already heard the melodic differences between classic and modern stages. It turns out classic remixes will also grace Generations, so a Classic Sonic stage in a modern era level will be accompanied with an appropriate “classic” remix.
Other items to note:
* Takashi Iizuka confirms in his interview a brand new principal antagonist for Generations, which “erased time and space,” according to Iizuka.
* Confirmed 2 player local race mode
* Special stages are coming back and they appear to be derived from Sonic Heroes.
* Tetsu Katano, who directed Sonic and the Black Knight and did work on the Sonic Adventure series, is directing the 3DS edition.
* Sonic Team and Dimps are co-developing the 3DS edition.
* Character wise, Iizuka says the 3DS edition will only have Sonic friends “who are integral to the story”–a contrast from the console counterpart.
* There will be no Wii edition of Sonic Generations. According to Iizuka, it’s because the point of the console edition is “reimagining the series’s classic zones in vivid, high-definition graphics.” The Wii can deliver 480p 16×9 graphics, but is not a high definition console.
Presumably Page 45 of the magazine is an article? It's not listed with the other page scans I found.
Nintendo power scans got leaked for
Sonic Generations 3DS, its confirmed to be developed by Dimps & Sonic Team... basically dimps if judging by past history on collaborations
So.. Sonic Rush
More quotes from the legendary Iizuka-san from the interview
"From the start of the project, the concept was to bring Genesis-era Sonic and Present-day Sonic together. On consoles modern-day Sonic is best represented by action 3D-action games like Sonic Colors, which switch between side-view and head-on 3D perspectives. Oh handheld platforms, on the other hand, modern day Sonic is represented by games like Sonic Rush and Sonic Colors, where Sonic uses the Sonic Boost to run at high speeds. That's why we decided to use that style of gameplay from the handheld version."
"From all that we made a list of console and N3DS versions and divided them up"
History of dimps partially confirmed for handheld version. I'm sure by 3DS he meant DS.
Also confirms the HD version isn't all boosting
Also says custom physics built by dimps.
According to Sonic Staduim, Green Hill Zone is the only level shared between each version; other then that, the 3DS version will have completely different levels.
Yes.

-Momentum-based gameplay and platforming are in the Classic Sonic gameplay.
-Modern Sonic plays a lot like the Rush games and Colours DS.
-3DS version will have exclusive stages and boss stages (we know that Casino Night and Launch Base are two of these)
-Green Hill will be the only shared stage across all versions.
-Casino Night from Sonic 2 is confirmed for the 3DS version.
-Story has some differences between the console and 3DS versions, but will essentially be the same.
-Console version will have many characters/friends, but the 3DS version will only feature the ones who are integral to the story.
-There is no Wii version. Iizuka-san: “The primary goal for the console versions of Generations was reimagining the series’s classic zones in vivid, high-definition graphics.”
-Sonic 3‘s Launch Base Zone Big Arm boss fight is in the game
-3DS version has exclusive challenges that you can unlock via StreetPass or Play Coins.
-It also features an exclusive two-player race mode via local wireless.
-Modern Sonic stages take advantage of the 3D feature more than the Classic Sonic stages. (EX: a part in the Green Hill Zone where Modern Sonic smashes through the bottom of a giant totem pole. The camera then moves to the front of Sonic and lets you see the rest of the pole collapse behind Sonic as he escapes.)
-The 3D depth is also highlighted when Modern Sonic occasionally moves between the foreground and the background.
-Jun Senoue and his music team are working on the music for the game.
-NP thinks the handful of tracks they’ve heard so far are “fantastic”.
-Special Stages are designed in Sonic Heroes style to get the Chaos Emeralds. It is unclear whether or not Super Sonic will be the ultimate reward for getting all Chaos Emeralds.
