Capcom has a history of disappointing and aggravating their fans as well as mismanaging their franchises. They've made so many bad decisions and broken so many promises. I think everyone would agree that they have been on a steady decline ever since their PS1 days and have made so many questionable moves this generation. Their fans have been on a rollercoaster and you can never predict the shit they will pull next. It's hard not to feel alienated no matter what platforms you own.
Just a few examples of the things they've pulled throughout the years.
Resident Evil
The PS1 was the main reason the Resident Evil franchise took off. They released the first 3 main series games on the platform and while some were also released on the Sega Saturn and Windows they were almost negligible to the popularity of the series.
Resident Evil 4, as expected, gets announced for the successor of the PS1 but eventually becomes Devil May Cry. The next significant Resident Evil game gets announced as an exclusive to the Dreamcast before being released a year later for the PS2.
The PS2 becomes a massive success and fans are expecting more Resident Evil on the PS2 right? Wrong. Resident Evil 4 finally gets announced and it's exclusive to the Gamecube. Shinji Mikami is adamant that the game will never come to another platform even going so far as to say he will "cut off his head" if it ever happened. Plenty of RE fans bought a Gamecube so they could play the game and then Capcom gives them the finger and jeopardizes the sales of the GC version by announcing a PS2 port before the GC version is even released. PS2 version also has tons of extra content to the dismay of the people who bought the GC version. Did I mention the amount of changes that RE4 went through until the real version was finally shown? I, as well as many others, were intrigued by the original visions for RE4 and were disappointed that the ideas were scrapped even though the game turned out fantastic in the end.
A Remake of Resident Evil and a prequel titled Resident Evil 0 (which was originally meant to be an N64 game. Sorry guys you only get an inferior port of RE2) is announced and they're exclusive to the Gamecube and remain exclusive apart from the redundant Wii re-releases.
Resident Evil 5 is released as a multiplatform and is subject to a bunch of shitty paid DLC like the Versus mode. It's also a co-op game and can't be played without an AI or player controlled companion.
Resident Evil 1.5 was never released. Capcom promises RE for PSP and the game most likely never existed. Outbreak didn't have fucking voice chat. Resident Evil: Mercenaries gets split into a standalone game for 3DS and has no Leon as well as only one save that can't be deleted.
Resident Evil squad shooter developed by Slant Six. Enough said.
The Capcom 5
Capcom announced 5, at the time exclusive, games for Gamecube. Viewtiful Joe (which later went to PS2 with more content), Resident Evil 4 (which also later went to PS2 with more content), Killer 7 (Once again to PS2), PN 0.3., and Dead Phoenix which was never even released.
Monster Hunter
The game series that has become one of the largest sellers in Japan started on the PS2 but only become a massive hit thanks to the PSP and it's ad-hoc multiplayer. Each PSP installment including re-releases selling millions of copies. The main series being released mainly on PS2. Monster Hunter 3 gets announced for PS3 but gets cancelled and then finally reappearing as a Wii exclusive title. Even the 360, a massive failure in Japan, gets a monster hunter game. The PS3, instead, gets an HD port of the latest PSP game that Sony had to practically port themselves to convince Capcom to release something on PS3. Apparently the port isn't even that good. Of course we all know what happens next with the, as of now, announcement of both an updated Tri and the next game in the series being announced only for the 3DS when many expected Capcom to continue the series on Vita. A massive dick move if the Vita only ends up with a port of the port of the PSP game. This remains to be seen.
Shitty DLC
Paid colour swaps, paid costumes, day one DLC, content already on the disk being sold, and a bunch of other shit that Capcom has gone completely batshit insane with this gen.
Megaman Legends 3
Oh yes, the long-awaited sequel to the cult-classic series. Being announced at all was a cause for joy among the fans and the involvement of the community in character and enemy designs was mostly well-received. Then it all went south. Capcom reveals that the game hasn't even been given the green light and that they are going to release a paid prototype demo to gauge interest. It doesn't even get to that point as the game is outright cancelled with Capcom basically stating the fans didn't care enough. Really Capcom?
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Holy shit they are bringing back Marvel vs Capcom. This is great news. Hmm they added a bunch of shitty characters that nobody wanted and don't even include fucking Megaman? What's this? An upgraded re-release with more content announced only months later that won't be available as an expansion download? You so crazy Capcom.
You gave Devil May Cry to WHO?!
Ninja Theory. Dante is a teenager and he is emo and shit and it's 30fps but it's ok because you secretly like it.
Their outsourcing in general has had both negative and positive results (mostly negative).
Plus some other relatively minor shit they've done to piss people off. Dead Rising on Wii but not PS3, Dead Rising 2 DLC only on 360, Frank West DR2 rehash sold separately.
Where the fuck is Dino Crisis? Where the fuck is Onimusha? DMC PSP never existed etc. etc. I'm sure I missed a bunch of shit. Where is Castlevania 1999 Capcom? Get the fuck on it.
