OOC: Interview takes place hours before last week's Brash telecast.
From time to time. TNBWrestling.com will conduct interviews with some of TNB's biggest stars. This, is one of those moments. As today. The website conducted an interview with MoneyMaker Incorporated member. The one, and only "Myster Controversy" of professional wrestling. He is none other then Genesis.
TNBWrestling.com: Genesis. I must ask this right outta the shoot. Why did you want to have this interview with us today?
Other then to gain more publicity. You've been chosen to hear of my plans for the future in this business. You see, its no surprise. That for a long time. All the dirtsheets such as PWI Torch & WrestleView.com. Among other places. Have been shooting there mouths off about my career. What I'm going to be doing next. And blah, blah, blah. I'm here to set the record straight.
TNBWrestling.com: Okay. Well tell us then. What are your plans for the future, Genesis?
For starters. As of today. I have chosen not to renew my contract with TNB Wrestling for the 2012 year. The big Pay-Per-View event "Rise to Stardom" coming in October will be my last event for the organization.
I know I've been away from the business since 2007. Only to come back this year to fill the void left by that idiot Brandon Payne. Who nearly sabotaged my good name. I felt that. Even during those years when it wasn't really 'me' doing the work under the 'Genesis' persona. That character has achieved so much in such a short time really.
Look back since early 2006 at how much I've been able to achieve. In six years time. I'm already one of the biggest names in the history of our sport. Love me, or hate me. You have to respect that. And... it comes a time where you have to know when its time to let go & move on.
I feel that 2012 is that time. We're more then halfway down with the 2011 fiscal year for TNB Wrestling. Thus far. I'm very proud, and happy with what I've been able to do since returning. MMInc is running strong. Hell, the group is a household name that. No matter what happens in the end. This group will go down in history as one of the greatest heel stables to ever grace TNB Wrestling. That's thanks in part to everyone who was able to contribute & make that happen. From myself, to Sylas Styles. Joker, The Youngbloods, MoneyMaker himself, the list goes on.
For me. It comes down to challenges. I really don't think I have many 'challenges' left out there. If there isn't any motivation for me to keep going. Then that's when I know that its time to stop. Come back down to Earth, and start something new, something fresh.
TNBWrestling.com: So with 2011 being your final year actively competing in a wrestling ring. Suffice it to say. The 'Farewell Tour' has pretty much begun?
If you want it call it that. Aside from Sylas, Avenger, The Youngbloods and Double S. Names that I can think of off the top of my head here (laughs). I'm one of the last of a dying breed. We all came from an era of wrestling where. We didn't care so much about the markings on our win-loss columns. We cared more about putting the asses in the seats. It wasn't always
about the titles & accolades. It was about the stories you told, and the recognition from those stories one could gain. From time to time. I know that at times. Even I, would get a bad rep for being one of those guys that constantly held others down. Or held this business down. To me, that's all complete bullshit. The only time Genesis has ever held 'anybody down' was when I was pinning the other persons shoulders to the mat for the 1,2,3.
With my career coming to a close soon. I'd like to go out on a high note. I feel that 2011 has truly been my best year in such a long time. Some that look back on my career over the years. You'll get a wide variety of answers & responses of when they liked the Genesis character the most. But I'd like to say, for me, 2011 has been my greatest year since 2007.
TNBWrestling.com - With your plans to leave the ring. What does the future hold for 'Myster Controversy'?
For starters. I want to get away from this business as far as I can go for a long time. Then, when I get that sudden 'itch' that needs to be scratched. You'll see me back. But never in a wrestling atmosphere. After the curtain call at Rise to Stardom. I want to make it clear. That under no circumstances whatsoever. No matter how bad people would want to see me come back. Or, even how bad I'd get the notion to come back for one last match. I've made up my mind that I'm done after that night.
When you see me back in the wrestling business. Its going to be under different terms & circumstances. Whether its in a backstage capacity or in a way that I can still interact with the audience. But at the same time. Help further someone else's career. Rest assured. While Genesis might be done in the ring. You won't see the last of me.
This business gets in your blood. Once its there. Its there 4-Life. You can never truly walk away from it. No matter how hard you try. And to me. I think if you're a TRUE wrestling die-hard. You'll feel the same way. I've seen others come & go, never to return. To those people. I always think they never really had a... lets just call it, a true passion for the business, ya know? For me. Its your heart. Its your blood. Its the first thing I think about each morning. The last thing I think about when I go to sleep at night.
Maybe I'm obsessed. Maybe I'm not. Rest assure. I believe if you truly love something so much. You'll do anything to be the best at it. These last six years. There is so much that I've been able to accomplish. That I feel there is simply nothing left but to give back to the business in some way.
TNBWrestling.com - Any final thoughts?
2011 isn't done by a long shot. Genesis isn't dead yet. I've still got several more months left to raise hell and bust some skulls. MMInc is riding higher then ever before. By year's end. Whether its saying a tearful goodbye to me. Or giving me the finger from all the haters who despise me. Regardless of how you feel. Trust me. This business will never be the same when I'm gone.
On the other hand. TNB may be seeing a facelift next year. I have faith that many of the younger talent will step-it-up to the next level. Some have already got there. Others are working on it. 2012 will be the year you truly see 'The New Blood' rising. I can guarantee it.
So for now. To the fans. Enjoy the time and treasure the moments that I'm out there in the ring. No matter if you love me, hate me or respect me. Just know that each & every week. Genesis shows up for work & delivers the goods. And will continue to do so until the final bell sounds in October.
When I first entered the business. All I ever wanted to do, since the age of nineteen. Was 'leave my mark' on the business. Some 6-7 years later? I can say that I've done that. Now? Only thing there is left to do is to say good-bye.
