Sonic X-Treme - 1997 - SEGA SaturnSonic X-treme is a shelved platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was originally developed by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis but was moved to the Sega 32X and eventually to the Sega Saturn and intended to be released around Christmas of 1996, but after many problems and getting stuck in development hell, it was finally cancelled in 1997. Had it been finished, it would have been the first fully 3D Sonic game and the first original Sonic title developed for the Sega Saturn. Because the game was cancelled, Sega released a port of Sonic 3D Blast for the Saturn in 1996. The Sonic X-treme debacle has been cited as a reason for the ultimate failure of the Saturn in the West.[by whom?] With Sony and Nintendo both having flagship 3D platformers available early in the life cycle of their consoles (Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 respectively), Sega was expected[by whom?] to follow suit and produce an official 3D Sonic game. When news broke that Sonic X-treme had been pulled from the schedules and replaced with a conversion of a 16-bit game, it only confirmed the public's impression that the Saturn no longer represented serious competition for its rivals. The Saturn never did receive an exclusive Sonic platforming game, but rather only the Genesis port of Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Jam, a compilation of the 2D Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic titles, and Sonic R, a racing game. Sonic's debut in a full 3D platform game was in Sonic Adventure as a Dreamcast launch title in 1998. Jurassic Park 3: Survival - 2001 PS2It probably would have sucked, but still had its charm for the JP fans like myself. I would have liked to play it anyways, it seemed interesting enough - since it's one of the games I had ear-marked to look out for once I purchased a PS2. On A JP related subject... has anyone seen this? Based off the book, f'ers! Trust me, this is gonna be sweet, I read that book in 1997 and WISHED JP2:The Lost World was like that.

I can't think of any actual games that I know were Cancelled I know I wished I could have played the original intention for Resident Evil 2 or 1.5 as it was dubbed, and the same goes for RE4 not that I don't like the final versions it is just that I cannot get enough Resident Evil in my life.
I do however wish a few games got a sequel to them, namely Bully or Canis Candem Edit whichever it is called for you guys. I got into that game again recently and just can't get enough of it.

One game that I was looking forward to and was interest in getting was PotC: Armada of the Damned. It looked like it was going to be a sweet Pirates game but got cancelled for some unknown reason.

I forgot to post videos of mine, and to bump this thread hoping for more of a discussion.
Seems the change in direction from traditional zombies to other creatures in RE4 was always on the cards. Still I think this could have been recycled into a great game itself.

WCW/nWo Live! In a mad dash to make the most out of its expiring WCW license (Electronic Arts took over in 1999), THQ tried to prep WCW/nWo Live for release at the end of 1998. Since it was coming from Tomy, we surmised it contained at least some part of the Toukon Retsuden 3 engine.
More than 30 wrestlers were present in the game, but only half of them were from the WCW or nWo. The rest of the roster was filled with Japanese wrestlers. You could create your own wrestler, specifying height, weight, clothes, hair, moves, rants, and tattoos.
The game reportedly ran at 60 frames per second at one point, even in the four-player mode. The game was to contain signature finishing moves and real entrance music, giving the game a realistic (well, as realistic as you can get in a wrestling game) look and feel.
WHAT HAPPENED? THQ's WWF SmackDown! for the PlayStation used a variation of the Toukon 3 engine originally intended for the deceased WCW/nWo Live.

WCW 2000 aka WCW Backstage Assault [PS2]Looking at the CDs of both WCW MAYHEM, WCW BACKSTAGE ASSAULT, WCW MAYHEM has the oldschool Electronic Arts "square, circle, triangle" logo. WCW BACKSTAGE ASSAULT has the funky "EA" letters logo. If this means anything, I don't know. What got me looking on them is this: WCW MAYHEM was 1999. This PS2 Game is supposed to be released Q4 2000 by EA Canada (and was apparently called WCW 2000).... Which is when I estimate WCW BACKSTAGE ASSAULT would have been released on PSONE. This seems like a downgrade to PSONE, or a remake of/sequal to WCW BACKSTAGE ASSAULT. However it's far more likely that it was supposed to be one of those 'dual releases', where the PSONE got a stripped down version, and the newly released PS2 got the super mega awesome version - or at least a graphically superior version, the same as Alone In The Dark: A New Nightmare did. It was cancelled due to the complete and utter disgust that many people had with the PS1 version. They would have honestly been better off going with the PS2 only version, and blaming any bad press on having to get used to the new PS2 hardware... it looked like the super mega awesome version anyway! WCW Wrestling aka WCW Mayhem 2 This is the one people probably know more about. WCW Mayhem 2 was a professional wrestling video game to be published by Electronic Arts. The game was rumored to have been developed by AKI for the Sony PlayStation 2. A branching storyline as well as over 1000 moves would accompany the game. Match types like first blood and gauntlet were going to be implemented as well. Unfortunately for fans, WCW Mayhem 2 was never completed as the WWF’s purchase of the WCW in March of 2001 negated Electronic Art’s licensing deal. The technology and engine, however, were later used in part for EA’s future wrestling title, Def Jam Vendetta.

WWE SmackDown HCTP in-production shotsAh yes, the game that could have been. Team Angle Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin (I always thought that look was superior to their WGTT attires), Jeff Hardy, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan (1980s), Hollywood Hogan (nWo), Hollywood Hulk Hogan (WWE 2003) and Mr. America! "Team Angle" were updated into "WGTT" by the release of the game, Jeff was fired, negotiations between Warrior and McMahon broke down, and Hogan left under bad circumstances. Changed Entrances/ThemesongsCena had a 'NETS' jersey, where as in the final game I think it just said '32' on it.
Dudleys were supposed to have 'Drop The Bombshell' theme.
Eddie had the 'Latino Heat' theme...
... and Chavo had the old LWo themebut when the game was finalized they both just used the Los Guerrero's 'Lie, Cheat, Steal' theme in the final version. There appears to be something different about Hurricane's entrance for me to have saved the video years agoHere's Team Angle Charlie Haas' entrance, although I can't find the production pics of Shelton Benjamin like this... yet.Now The Rock's entrance I also have saved. I'm sure this version is an extended version of the one included in the final game.JEFF HARDYHULK HOGAN (80s)HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN (WWE 2003)ULTIMATE WARRIOR

That was an awesome series of posts karl! Out of that list, WCW mayhem should have happened the most. WCW/nWo live sounds like an interesting concept but the first 3 smackdowns were really jumpy, stiffly animated and really fast paced.
WCW mayhem 2 was basically going to be WWF No Mercy 2. More wrestlers, More moves, more modes and match types, way better graphics and i heard something about being able to make your own rings ala Fire Pro

I totally wanted this version of RE4 instead of the one we got. "RE3.5" looked awesome.
